Agency Lost

…or paradise-on-gain

Humans navigate a reflective and mirrored maze of desires.

These are intricately interwoven past and future expectations shaped by psychological evolution and morality. Trusted motivated reasoning, as an amalgam of conflated desires, functions, sociologically, as a culturally created and dynamic lens, focusing and influencing reasoning and societal beliefs.

Capitalism's limited liability laws enable a shared economic meme. This is now inclusive of a business model of sociopathically marketing consumptive desires, and these as desire: A desiring to desire for profit.

An iteration of capitalism:

it blindly prioritizes capital;
ignores the physics of abrupt climate forcing vectors;
denies the overshadowing societal needs for a better Ordering and Preservation and Furtherance of the Common Good;
...and this of both our social and environmental commons.

The human condition, when influenced by AI, algorithms, and psychological profiling, is increasingly the means by which the human dilemma devolves.

Paradoxically, human agency can yet guide or deceive us. Variously, this agency's affect is a social salvation and/or sycophantic meme. Within our species' globalized systemic avarice and acedia, human agency is now a denied failure to psychologically mature

...and this inclusive of an integrated dance with grief.

What is in a name? What does “paradise-on-gain” communicate? This iTAIM/AI assisted production encapsulates – in 50¢ words – the amplification-as-gain (and pun-like) of the loss of human agency to personalized psychological profiling to induce desire in the physiology of the individual human as a metabolizing consumable. It takes about 20 minutes for our bodies to metabolize a flush of neuropeptides. This means that a desired desire must be re-juiced every 5 minutes or so to maintain a homeostasis that is dependent on a dance with such a desire. At least in rats, once a pattern is established, the pattern never alters, until the rat dies. To check out if the illusion to Milton epic poem “Paradise Lost”, and due to AI’s utility to affect a marketable product of individualized desire, was effective communication I prompted iTAIM/AI to write an epic poem titled "Agency Lost", and subtitled "…or paradise-on-gain”. While not too “epic”, and but for motivated reasoning, this 'fine mess we are in’ is a concept of the human condition that is within our grasp.

In realms where shadows dance and whisper,

Where dreams entwine with threads of fate,

A tale unfolds, as hearts grow crisper,

Of agency lost, and the weight of hate.

Upon the dawn of a gilded age,

When power surged like rivers wide,

Men sought to write their own grand page,

Yet found their voices cast aside.

With eyes alight, they reached for stars,

To claim the skies, to seize the day,

But chains of greed, like iron bars,

Bound souls to paths they could not sway.

In cities bright, where fortunes gleam,

They traded hope for fleeting gain,

Yet in their hearts, a silent scream,

For paradise lost, a bitter stain.

The towers rose, the valleys wept,

As nature’s grace was torn asunder,

In pursuit of gold, the promise kept,

Yet souls grew hollow, lost in thunder.

For every step towards the divine,

A step away from truth's embrace,

In shadows deep, they sought to shine,

But found themselves in empty space.

O, agency lost, a haunting plight,

In paradise-on-gain, they stood confined,

Yet in the dusk, a flicker of light,

A whisper of hope, a chance to rewind.

So let the winds of change now blow,

Let voices rise, reclaim the right,

For in the depths of pain, we grow,

And find the path that leads to light.

Awake, O souls, from slumber’s bind,

Reclaim your strength, your will to stand,

For in the heart of humankind,

Lies the power to heal this land.

In unity forged, let courage reign,

Together we’ll rise, not lose the fight,

For agency found, through joy and pain,

Will guide us home to the endless light.
